What do the Red Bull Salzburg fan shop and the payroll accounting of the food discounter Hofer have in common? Both work with software solutions from the Steyr software house BMD. Its boss, Markus Knasmüller, gave an insight into the company to more than 40 members of the hr lounge this week. “We are often considered to be the ones who make the tax consulting software. In fact, we have an 80 percent market share in Austria in this segment. But the bottom line is that it only accounts for 20 percent of our sales.”

Knasmüller has been on board since 1997. “Back then we were 70 employees, today we are 700 at twelve locations.” The growth – which is always around ten percent per year – was only possible because the fluctuation at two percent was extremely low. A few figures: Every second salary in Austria is settled using a BMD solution. More than 100,000 users with more than 30,000 customers and 1400 new customers acquired in the previous year.

Human resources manager Romana Hausleitner also gave an overview of the company’s HR processes. As a provider of HR software solutions, a professional application process and onboarding are mandatory. More than 1100 applicants were managed in 2022, and 80 employees actually started.
