National coach Alfred Gislason praised the appearance of goalkeeper Andreas Wolff at the Handball World Championship even before the last game of the DHB selection in the highest tones. “He held up great,” Gislason said of Wolff’s performance at the finals in Poland and Sweden.

Gislason, who had already worked with Wolff from 2016 to 2019 at the German record champions THW Kiel, attested to the 31-year-old’s enormous personal development. “He’s mature, calm, incredibly stable. He’s ambitious, but not as uptight as he was a few years ago,” said the Icelander about the world-class keeper.

During their time together in Kiel, Wolff was “an extremely explosive person”. “He’s often desperate in himself,” said Gislason. It’s completely different now. “It’s great fun with him,” emphasized the 63-year-old.

At the end of the World Cup, the German team will meet Norway on Sunday (1 p.m. / ZDF) in the match for fifth place. In the main round, the DHB team narrowly lost against the Scandinavians with 26:28. “Obviously we want to come out of the tournament with a win,” said Gislason.
