Deutsche Post is pushing for two-class mail delivery

Deutsche Post continues to insist that letters should be delivered at two speeds in the future – with different prices.

Deutsche Post DHL is continuing to push for the letter system to be converted to so-called two-class delivery. “The consumer can decide at what speed his letter is transported,” said Human Resources Director Thomas Ogilvie to the newspapers of the Funke media group. “In terms of the range of offers, I think that’s a good step.” A reduction in letter delivery to just five days a week is not a goal that is currently being pursued.

Deutsche Post wants to deliver in two speeds

It has long been known that the group would like to deliver post at two speeds in the future – with different prices. According to the company, there are already different delivery speeds in other European countries. A prerequisite for such a step would be that the obligation to deliver at least 80 percent of letters the following day would be removed in the upcoming reform of the postal law. The traffic light coalition wants to change and modernize the postal law.

Deutsche Post is facing significant delays in the delivery of letters and parcels from next month. The reason is the collective bargaining conflict with the Verdi union. Verdi is starting the ballot today on nationwide and indefinite strikes. The Verdi members employed by Swiss Post can decide on this by March 8th.
