The bosses negotiators of the Mercosur-European Union Agreement culminated in Buenos Aires two Workdays in which aspects were addressed to advance in the effective association of the two blocks.
The Mercosur delegation, chaired by Argentina, included the participation of the bloc’s four national coordinators, while the European Union delegation was chaired by the Director of Trade of the EU Commission and the Chief Negotiators of the Service Abroad.
The ambassador of the European Union in Argentina, Amador Sanchez Ric, said “The two-day round of negotiations with the four Mercosur partners has the objective of making firm progress to make the EU-Mercosur Agreement a reality.”
Both blocks -in a joint communiqué- reported that “The talks revolved around the three dimensions of sustainable development (economic, social and environmental) as a framework for deepening the bi-regional association.”
“Faced with the new global political and economic scenario, mindful of the strategic importance of the bi-regional relationship, both delegations agreed on the importance of intensifying the dialogue to reach a mutually beneficial and balanced agreement,” said Palacio San Martín and the representation of the European Commission.
The delegations agreed on a work schedule for the current semester.
The Mercosur-European Union Association Agreement has been going through a period of stagnation since it was signed in 2019, with an open trade negotiation that is subject to legal and formal review of the texts and the respective market access offers
