Götz E. Rehn wanted to sell natural foods on a large scale. To do that, he first had to have them produced. The beginning of an unprecedented success story.

Would Alnatura exist if you hadn’t moved to the Ruhr area at the age of twelve?
Probably not. I grew up in Freiburg, where I spent a lot of time in nature, we caught trout by hand, built tree huts, drove soapbox races. In the Ruhr area I was surprised how dirty the air was. If you ran your finger along the window sill, it was black every morning – even though it was cleaned again and again. And I suddenly experienced a crisis situation: many collieries and steel works were closed, and there were many unemployed people.
