Deutsche Telekom saw a significant increase in the number of customers in the second quarter. This also has to do with families.
An unexpectedly high demand for mobile phone contracts has once again given Deutsche Telekom a strong quarter. Between April and June, the number of contract customers under its own brands grew by 311,000, the company announced in Bonn. This was also due to continued high interest in offers such as family contracts.
The parent company of T-Mobile US exceeded expectations with the number of new customers. Mobile service revenue also increased accordingly. The European Football Championship in Germany and new regulations for cable connections had a positive effect on the number of TV customers.
At group level, revenue in the second quarter increased by 4.3 percent to almost 28.4 billion euros compared to the same period last year. This was more than industry experts had expected. Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization including leasing costs (EBITDA AL), adjusted for special items, rose by 7.8 percent to 10.8 billion euros. The bottom line is that Telekom earned just under 2.1 billion euros, compared to around 1.5 billion the year before.
