The household appliance manufacturer Miele is cutting more than 1,000 jobs. After long negotiations, it is now clear what the affected employees will get.
As part of its staff reduction program, the household appliance manufacturer Miele is paying its employees in Germany severance pay of up to 270,000 euros in individual cases. This is reported by the magazines Stern and Capital in their current issues. In February, Miele announced the elimination of 1,300 jobs in Germany. Of these, 700 jobs in washing machine production are to be relocated to the Polish plant in Ksawerów.
Miele employees receive record severance pay
In June, the company had agreed with IG Metall on a “future and social collective agreement” that guarantees the German locations until 2028. At that time, a “voluntary exit program with generous severance payments and a social component” was agreed. As research by star and Capital have now shown that the agreed calculation formula can result in total severance payments of up to 270,000 euros in individual cases in the case of long-term employment.
The severance payments are capped at this maximum amount, as the company confirmed to stern and Capital. This means that the Gütersloh family business is making payments to departing employees that are among the highest in Germany. Such record severance payments have previously only been seen at the much larger companies SAP or Bayer.
