Strikes: Further outages threatened – strikes at Discover continue

The strikes at Lufthansa’s holiday airline Discover were supposed to end on Friday. But the Cockpit union has other plans.

Passengers on Lufthansa’s holiday airline Discover must also prepare for cancellations due to strikes over the weekend. The strikes will continue until Sunday, said the Cockpit Association (VC). The strike, which began on Tuesday, was originally supposed to end on Friday. With this step, VC wants to demonstrate its determination in the current wage dispute.

Together with the Ufo union, VC called on the flight crew in the cockpit and cabin to stop working. On Wednesday, eight of the 26 planned takeoffs were cancelled at Frankfurt Airport, and in Munich, according to Discover, a flight to Ibiza was cancelled. A similar result was expected for Thursday.

With the strikes, the sector unions rooted in the Lufthansa Group want to enforce their own collective agreements after management agreed on a contract with its competitor Verdi. Verdi only represents a few pilots and flight attendants in the company, claim Ufo and VC. The holiday airline Discover Airlines, founded in 2021, currently has 27 aircraft with which it flies to holiday destinations in Europe and overseas. Around 1,900 people work on board.
