Javier Milei again crossed Mauricio Macri and tensions with PRO escalate

Javier Milei crossed paths with Mauricio Macri again last night at the presentation of the 2025 Budget and responded in harsh terms to his criticism of the alleged lack of management in the government of Freedom Advances“It never ceases to amaze me that leaders of all colors and flags so often accuse us of not having management,” was the response of the President who even took it upon himself to criticize by name and surname a former minister of the head of the PRO.

Macri visited Milei in Olivos at least three times in the last 30 days and managed to activate a parliamentary coordination table between LLA, PRO and legislative allies of the Casa Rosada such as Oscar Zago’s MID. But they have not been able to agree on a common agenda while Macri unsuccessfully pushes to occupy more spaces in the Cabinet.

PRO, out

Faced with the presidential “environment” that they embody Karina Milei and Santiago Caputothe PRO is unable to penetrate decision-making positions within the government structure. Last week, libertarian activists on social media accused Macri of trying to destabilize Guillermo Francos, first, and then Patricia Bullrich for the repression operation outside Congress where a federal police officer gassed a 10-year-old girl. But the former president had also clashed with Martín Menem, whom he accused of not knowing how to run the Chamber of Deputies.

In the most critical part of his speech against Macri, the President launched a direct accusation against the Cambiemos government and pointed to Carolina Stanley, one of the ex-President’s favorite ministers: “Managing means eliminating the middlemen who profited from poverty, which Minister (Carolina) Stanley invented.” This is the Minister of Social Development of Cambiemos and wife of Federico Salvai, former Chief of Staff of María Eugenia Vidal, one of the Macri deputies present last night in the chamber.

“Managing is not about appointing thousands of officials in every corner of the state, when half of those areas should not exist, nor about a national director signing a resolution to spend millions of pesos on services that the private sector can provide better and cheaper,” Milei roared before the few legislators who gathered in the chamber.

Javier Milei and management

The head of state went further by highlighting that “Managing is not about making paths that lead nowhere”nor overcrowded housing that nobody wants, but rather approving the single paper ballot, a flag of those who talk about transparency but have done little for it,” in direct reference to Together for Change, the opposition group that included the PRO, the UCR and the Civic Coalition of Elisa Carrió.

“In short, management is not about administering the State, reducing the State to enhance society. So when those responsible for the failure accuse us of not having management, we carry it in our chest with pride,” continued Milei. While he falls in the polls, the head of State narrows his map of allies in Congress. In addition to the open confrontation with the PRO, the Casa Rosada went out to attack even the allied governors to whom it demanded an additional adjustment of US$60,000 million.

Mauricio Macri, without answers

In parallel, and after the approval of the law on educational financing and the rejection of the DNU of reserved funds for the SIDE in the Senate, the legislative coordination table headed by Guillermo Francos has not been able to reach agreements. Last week, Cristina Ritondo, head of the PRO bloc in the House of Representatives, complained about the presidential decree that limits the law on access to public information. Francos had promised to review it but Santiago Caputo deactivated that attempt by the chief of staff.

Tomorrow night, Milei will host a barbecue in Olivos to fatten up the veto club. These are the “87 heroes” who in the House of Representatives shielded the veto of the retirement mobility law. Without the 129 votes to approve the 2025 Budget, the Casa Rosada is betting on securing that third of almost 90 deputies to enable the President to veto all the laws of Congress that, according to his view, endanger fiscal balance.
