What Shogun is about and where to watch it
Inspired by true events, the series describes the strange friendship between John Blackthorne (Cosmo Jarvis), an English sailor who ends up stranded on the Japanese coast, and Lord Yoshii Toranaga (Hiroyuki Sanada), a powerful daimyo locked in a war against the other clan leaders to secure his regency of the shogunate. A fascinating story that explores the depths of Japanese politics in the Edo era (early 17th century), the series also paints a portrait of a gallery of complex characters.

Will Shogun have a second season?
When FX decided to adapt Shogun The network envisioned the historical samurai epic as a limited series. However, the adaptation has performed remarkably well. FX, Hulu and the Clavell estate have announced that The critically acclaimed series would return for additional seasons.
Paying great attention to detail and effectively adhering to the storylines of the source material, Shogun’s first season covered the entirety of Clavell’s novel. Key creative partners for the series are on board for future seasons. This includes executive producer Michaela Clavell already the star and producer of the series Hiroyuki Sanadathe co-creators, executive producers and writers Justin Marks and Rachel Kondowho already have a plan for what comes next.
Speaking to Variety, Marks and Kondo revealed they had held a meeting with FX president Gina Balian and executive producer Michaela Clavell, the daughter of author Clavell, to discuss what comes next.
Looking to the future, Marks and Kondo will draw on the annals of historyseeking inspiration from the real-life characters who inspired Clavell’s book, and have begun “really just building that together in a way that started to feel like, ‘Oh, I think we need to do this. I think we really love this idea. ’” The pair are by no means at a loss, as they already have an endgame for the series in mind, Marks reveals: “We know how this all ends at the final moment. And once we saw that moment, we said, ‘Oh, now we have to get to that.’ Now we have to do that.’… We think we have something that’s exciting and surprising.”
