It’s a relief for Mallorca vacationers: At the airport, laptops and liquids no longer have to be taken out during security checks – and there are other improvements.
For visitors to Mallorca, the journey home will now be a lot more comfortable. Laptops and liquids are now allowed to remain in hand luggage during security checks at Palma airport. In addition, after checking in, you no longer have to take the escalator or elevator to the upper floor, as the security gate has been on the same floor as the check-in counters since Wednesday after being relocated, as the Aena administrative authority on the Spanish holiday island announced.
Previously, at Son Sant Joan airport you had to go up to security and then back down to the gates. The innovations should make the process much quicker. This year, controls often led to problems, especially at the beginning of the season. In the early morning, when many budget airlines take off, long queues of people formed. Some passengers even missed their flights because of the delays.
The new scanners allow passengers to leave electronic devices and liquids in their carry-on luggage. However, the limit of 100 milliliters per liquid container remains in effect. There will be further improvements in the next few months. The number of body scanners is expected to increase from the current 9 to 22.
