After months of construction work, the Frankfurt-Mannheim railway line will soon be opened. A precautionary concept is intended to ensure a smooth start after there were recent problems.
Deutsche Bahn is preparing to resume train services on the Frankfurt-Mannheim route in mid-December. The company said additional staff and machines would be planned to be able to intervene quickly in the event of any problems. Replacement traffic should also be available at short notice in the event of possible disruptions. The route called Riedbahn has been completely closed since mid-July due to general renovation. Trains will be running again from December 15th.
In January, there were delays in resuming train services following a preliminary closure of the route. Conclusions were drawn from this and the result was a precautionary program. “It is intended to ensure that the trains roll smoothly over the renewed route from day one after the work has been completed. We are well prepared for all foreseeable risks,” explained DB Infrastructure Director Berthold Huber.
New technology is currently being installed
The new control and safety technology is currently being installed on the route and the new electronic signal boxes are being gradually connected. The Riedbahn is the first of 41 heavily used rail corridors that are to be comprehensively renovated and modernized in the coming years. To replace regional transport, a fleet of 150 buses will be on the road during the closure, and long-distance and freight transport will be rerouted.
