German pensioners wave the Dolce Vita in Italy

For German emigrants, life in Italy is as expensive as in this country. For this, several regions attract retirement retailers with lower taxes.

With the most popular travel destinations in Germans, Italy is at the top year after year. The Mediterranean country is finally considered a place of longing in Germany with its varied landscape with Alps, beaches and gentle hills, with pizza, pasta and dolce vita. With Germans in retirement age who emigrate abroad, Italy is not quite as high as other countries. Several regions favor emigrants with lower taxes.

Most of the money from the German pension insurance flows to Italy, as they show. The majority of it goes to foreign insured persons, i.e. Italian citizens who have acquired their pension claims in Germany and of whom probably many return to their home country. Otherwise, 7797 German pensioners lived in Italy last year. For comparison: Austria is much more popular with more than 28,000 German pensioners, followed by Switzerland (26,000) and Spain (22,000).
