Verdi continues Post warning strikes for two more days

The collective bargaining conflict at the Post is bubbling – warning strikes meet again the delivery of letters and packages. The union puts great pressure before continuing the conversations.

The Verdi union continues the warning strikes at Deutsche Post on Friday and Saturday. Nationwide, employees in letter, package and composite delivery at selected locations as well as in service branches are called up to temporary work, as Verdi announced.

In the night from Tuesday to Wednesday, Verdi had already called up the employees nationwide in the parcel centers to warning strikes, while on Thursday employees were on delivery and service finishes.

“With the warning strikes expanded this week, the colleagues in the companies show that they expect significantly more from their employer,” said Andrea Kocsis, deputy Verdi chairman and negotiator. In the next negotiating round next week, an improved offer is expected that is unable to reach.

Union insists on a strong increase in wages

Verdi demands seven percent higher fees in a twelve-month collective agreement that would apply to around 170,000 postmen, package messengers and other logistics employees. Post, which belongs to DHL, offers an increase in a 27 -month contract by 1.8 percent and later by a further 2.0 percent.

In addition, Verdi is strong for three extra vacation days to take the increased workload into account. If you are a Verdi member, you should even get four. In turn, the post only offers an extra vacation day for employees who have less than 30 vacation days a year-around two thirds of the workforce.

Negotiations continue on Monday

The three previous negotiating rounds brought no result, the fourth round is planned for Monday. In the past few weeks, Verdi had always called on warning strikes in the different areas, whether in the package or letter area. In some places, this led to significant delays in the delivery of programs.
