Crap! Now he also has to celebrate: Bernd The bread is 25

Millions find him sweet like a tart. His comments sound more like sourdough. Bernd The bread is the child’s hero who never laughs. A declaration of love for a wonderful grave.

He just wants to finally finish work and stare at the wall in peace. Instead, Bernd has to keep the bread over and over again: he is sent to space, put in a clown costume, should play waitress or be a cheer leader. Today the children’s channel from ARD and ZDF (Kika) celebrates the 25th birthday of Germany’s most popular box bread.

“Let’s get it behind!”

Bernd will not celebrate voluntarily. He will probably be “crap!” say. And with “let’s get behind us!” result in his fate. For years, the bread has been trying to escape the audience in the deadline loop.

Because Bernd actually only wants to keep away, for example away from the cold: “It’s winter again. Hurray! Brrr! Everything is too white, too cold and Brrrr!” He complains. “I think that the migratory birds do it right and, before everything freezes, fly south.” He thinks briefly after: “Good idea.” But then his two stubs are not suitable for lifting: “Crap!”

“For those who don’t want to participate in the long -term grin”

The box bread that speaks but never smiles has quickly built up a huge fan base – among children and among adults. In 2004 he got the Grimme Prize for exemplary television: “Bernd keeps grumbling attitudes, where others persuade himself to participate in participating, they would do it happy,” said the jury justification.

And a few sentences further: “Bernd still has hope of escaping this” dirty business “one day. But we cannot allow that, because we need it, this dual system that has become dual system that delights children and adults, simply everyone who does not want to participate in the constant grin.”

Bernd’s graveness is now captivating people from all over the world. Punk-icon Patti Smith (“Because the Night”) experienced the best time of sex, drugs and rock’n’roll in the 1970s. And the American loves Bernd’s psychedelic world, whose clips she discovered on European tour.

“Desperately looking for entertainment. At Kika I come across a chronically depressed loaf at Kika at night,” she wrote enthusiastically about her 1.3 million followers on Instagram last year.

In the clutches of the underworld

In 2009, the motif Bernd even aroused the desires of the underworld. At that time, the almost two-meter-tall and 125-kilo plastic statue of the crowd favorite disappeared from the traditional place in the city center of Erfurt.

At that time, moving reactions reached the KIKA: students wanted to step onto the strike until the figure was returned or even donate their pocket money, as the station reported at the time. After almost two weeks, the box bread colossus was discovered in a cold basement vault of a decaying barracks in nohra, ten kilometers away.

The invention of the comedian Tommy Krappweis now appears in many formats of the Kika: from “Bernd the bread – the series” to “AstroBrew” to “Bernd the break bread”. The melancholic bread on February 29, 2000 was “great things” on February 29, 2000. However, because 2025 is not a leap year, the celebrations are preferred for one day.

The broadcaster celebrates the milestone birthday all year round with various formats and hands-on activities. The media magazine “Team Timster Special – Party for Bernd Das Bread” will start on February 28. Among other things, a new edition of the song “Dancing the Bread” is planned: with musician Marti Fischer, who, together with cabaret artist Bodo Wartke, landed a hit with the tongue cup song “Barbaras rhubarb”.
