“The prosecutor” says goodbye

TV chief prosecutor Bernd Reuther puts an end: leading actor Rainer Hunold and ZDF send the Wiesbaden investigator to the 20th and last season of the popular series.

Chief Prosecutor Bernd Reuther employ four new cases. His last cases should be, as ZDF and lead actor Rainer Hunold announced. The investigation leads the TV lawyer to a car workshop, two enemy winegrowers in the Rheingau and behind the scenes of a trendy wellness company.

The 20th season of “The Prosecutor” kicked off on Friday (February 28th) at 8:15 p.m. The first episode with the subtitle “Death Has Promotion” is already available in the media library.

Hardly imaginable without hunold

The crime series started in 2005. With a prosecutor as a protagonist, she brought variety to the large number of series on German television around police officers, lawyers or judges. Rainer Hunold (“A case for two”) shaped the role as a prudent investigator in constant use, who also likes to do research on his own. Without hunold, the series would hardly be imaginable.

As the ZDF announced, it was the 75-year-old himself who came up with the desire to the broadcaster and the production to turn the last episodes as a “prosecutor” in 2024.

For the final, the proven team came together under the direction of Susanne Boeing and Johannes Grieser: In addition to Hunold, Anika Baumann, as chief commissioner Julia Schröder, is there, Jannik Miaducki as chief commissioner Alexander Witte, Heinrich Schafmeister as snack operator Stefan Schiller and Astrid Posner as a legal doctor Dr. Judith Engel.

In episode roles there are popular television faces such as Leslie Malton, Hans-Werner Meyer, Tessa Mittelstaedt, Uwe Preuss, Timur Bartels and Robin Sondermann in front of the camera.

At the start in the episode “Death has a right of way”, the office power Sofia Nikova is robbed and poisoned in her apartment. Chief Prosecutor Reuther heads the murder investment by Commissioners Julia Schröder and Alexander Witte. Nikova worked in the office of a Wiesbaden car workshop. She has apparently been involved in several car accidents lately and received high insurance sums each.

Raoul Bender, the owner of the car workshop, is similar to the car expert Lorenz Will, who created the expert opinion after Sofia Nikova’s accident damage. Will is striking taciturn to Reuther. Does he know more about Nikova’s death than he wants to admit? Bernd Reuther is tracking down a fatal accident.

For Rainer Hunold, his farewell was a personal concern, as the ZDF announced: “Credibility and authenticity were always important criteria for the figures I played,” he said. “In view of my age, I therefore decided to retire the Oberstor’s Prosecutor Bernd Reuther, played in over 120 episodes.”
