VW starts because of the US tariff emergency plan – appeal to Trump
What VW sells in the USA often comes from Mexico. The car manufacturer of Trump’s new tariffs is correspondingly alarmed.
Volkswagen is examining adaptations in the US business for the new US tariffs. “In response to the new tariffs, we activate a comprehensive emergency plan to protect our shops, supply chains, dealers and consumers,” said Volkswagen of America in Reston in the US state of Virginia.
The group takes immediate measures to ensure supply in the United States, “while we check the necessary adjustments to production and imports”. The aim is to maintain as many jobs as possible.
The background is the tariffs against Mexico set by US President Donald Trump. VW operates a large work in Puebla that also produces models for the US market. VW manufactures other US models directly in the USA in his Chattanooga plant, but also obtains components from Mexico, which are now also occupied by tariffs.
At the same time, VW appealed to Trump to take the measures back. “We emphasize the US government to rethink its decision to introduce tariffs that already affect American jobs, economic growth and families across the country.” The tariffs had “devastating effects on the automotive industry” and damaged American dealers as well as customers there.
