Many see the reason for gender pay gap in a job choice

There is also a wage gap between men and women, a so -called gender pay gap. The genders see the reasons for this.
Many people see the different career choice of men and women as the reason for the wage gap between the two sexes. This emerges from numbers of a new YouGov survey on behalf of the German Press Agency.
Accordingly, 46 percent of men see the choice of job as a decisive factor in the fact that men earn more on average. With 34 percent, this sees significantly fewer respondents. Some cited the cause that the care work achieved by women at home influences their choice of career.
From the point of view of the respondents, the start of the family plays a decisive role: Around half (50 percent men, 53 percent women) provide part -time work and career interruptions as a factor for the wage difference.
On the other hand, significantly more women than men believe that gender stereotypes and social expectations lead to men earn better on average (45 and 34 percent). Discrimination in the workplace also plays a role for the respondents (men 21 percent, women 30 percent).
Majority for more legal measures
58 percent consider more legal measures necessary to reduce the wage gap between men and women – with 69 percent of women and 47 percent of men, however, there is an imbalance.
The question of which measures could help is more unit: 56 percent of men and 64 percent of women support the promotion of part-time and flexible working models. 57 percent are for state support for childcare and just more than half for an increase in the minimum wage.
The English expression of gender pay gap describes the gender -specific wage gap, i.e. the difference in the average payment of men and women. According to the Statistical Federal Office, women earned an average of 16 percent less than men in 2024 in Germany. The Equal Pay Day campaign day should draw attention to this fact.
