Deutsche Bahn’s trains often follow the timetable. As early as 2027, significantly more trains should be punctual. In March, passengers hardly felt anything.
The long -distance trains of the Deutsche Bahn were even more unpunctual in March than a year ago. According to the federal company, the operational punctuality of the ICE and IC trains was 65.6 percent- a decline by two percentage points compared to the same period last year.
On the one hand, the railway mentions the many construction sites in the route network. On the other hand, two unusual incidents led to locked routes and train failures. A tree felling campaign of two hobby gardeners between Celle and Uelzen failed. The tree fell on the overhead line, the railway line between Hamburg and Hanover was closed for days. A bird triggered a short circuit at Mainz Central Station.
By 2027, up to 80 percent of long -distance trains should be on time
As a delay, a long train goes into the statistics from a delay of six minutes. Train failures are not taken into account. These in turn flow into the so -called traveling punctuality. It measures what percentage of travelers in the respective period – even when using several trains – arrived on the destination on time, that is, with a delay of a maximum of 14 minutes and 59 seconds. The quota was 71.0 percent in March – and therefore slightly above the value of the previous year (70.5).
The main reasons for the many delays are the outdated infrastructure and the overloaded route network. The railway will gradually renovate the network in the coming years. By 2027, operational punctuality should be between 75 and 80 percent again.
