Many professional groups can effectively strike in air traffic. Now an industry has joined the colleagues in the public service.
At the German airports, possible strikes of another group of employees are as good as off the table. Employers and the Verdi trade union have developed a joint unification recommendation for the approximately 30,000 employees in the plane manufacture. This is sustainable for both sides and excludes industrial action for the next two years, said the impartial chair of the arbitration commission, Yvonne Sachtje.
However, prerequisite is the acceptance of the recommendation by the collective bargaining commissions of the three negotiating partners in the coming week. In addition to Verdi, these are the unification of the municipal employers ‘associations (VKA) and the employers’ association of ground handling service providers in air traffic (OJ).
A nationwide industry collective agreement for the airport workers has only been around since last year. With the current conclusion, it should also be adapted to the results and the term in the public service of the federal and municipalities. Most recently, the ready-to-use participated in the large Verdi warning strikes in the public service in March.
According to the arbitration, the contract of soil traffic services should now run by March 31, 2027. In two stages, employees receive increases by 3.0 and 2.8 percent. In addition, all monthly salaries from May 2026 should increase by a flat rate of 35 euros. Higher allowances and an additional vacation day were also agreed.
