It was recently reported that Florence Pugh and Austin Butler join the film alongside Walken. Pugh, 26, will play the emperor’s daughter, Princess Irulan, while Butler, 30, will play Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen, the heir presumptive to the Harkonnen dynasty.
The first film of the new franchise was released in theaters and in hbo max on October 22 and grossed $40.1 million in its opening weekend. A few days later it was confirmed that the sequel was in the works.
While few details about the upcoming “Dune” sequel have been revealed, Villeneuve, 54, told the Los Angeles Times that he hopes to give certain characters more time to shine in “Dune: Part Two”.
“There are some characters that are less developed that I’m going to keep for the second movie, and that’s how I found the balance. We tried to stay as close to Paul’s experience as possible in this movie,” the director said. “Then, in the second one, I will have time to develop some characters that were left a little to the side. That’s the theory. I hope it works”.
“Dune: Part Two” is scheduled to hit theaters on October 19, 2023.
