The American press surrendered to the latest novel by Argentine Mariana Enriquez

Frights abound, houses mutate, passageways hide unimaginable monsters and there are rituals with human sacrifices in this work, the fourth novel in Spanish by Enriquez, 49, consolidated as a leading figure in contemporary Gothic fiction.

The prestigious magazine The New Yorker publishes on its website -a preview of the latest edition to be published on February 13- an interview with Enriquez with the headline “On ghosts and mediums”, as well as an account of his authorship, in the same issue of the magazine that has a Interview with Salman Rushdie.

The newspaper The New York Timesboth in its English and Spanish editions, dedicates an extensive article of more than ten thousand characters to conversing with the Argentinian horror writer entitled “Enjoy the creepy”.

“In ‘Our Night Part’ he reminds readers that it’s the real-life monstrosities that should be scary”says the article originally published in English.

The fanaticism aroused by the work of this Argentinian author led many readers to make -and often give her- works of art inspired by her plots, her atmospheres or her characters and even herself, oil paintings, sculptures, sketches , tattoos, which flood the house of the writer. And it is there that the New York Times speaks of “a kind of literary rock star.”

“A Masterpiece of Supernatural Horror”praises the newspaper with its headline The Washington Post to the first novel by Mariana Enriquez published in English, where she assures that she “uses supernatural elements to analyze the violent history of Argentina.”

“Enriquez resorts here to supernatural arguments: what better response to the violent history of that country than a dark sect full of specters and demons, a haunted house, a dynastic family that would sacrifice their own to maintain power? Make no mistake: “Our Evening Part” is a literary achievement, magnificent and demanding in its execution.”

The English translation of his collection “The Dangers of Smoking in Bed” was a finalist for the International Booker Prize in 2021, and “Our Part of the Night” won the Herralde de Anagrama Award for the best book of the year in 2019.
