At the Berlinale, Christian Petzold was delighted to receive the grand jury prize. In an interview, he explains what he associates with the film award.
Director Christian Petzold was overwhelmed by his award with a Silver Bear at the Berlinale. “It means a lot to me, I even lost my voice when I heard my name,” said the 62-year-old of the German Press Agency on Saturday evening after the award ceremony.
Petzold’s film “Red Sky” received the Grand Jury Prize. The drama tells the story of four young people who spend their summer on the Baltic Sea and are threatened by forest fires there.
The wonderful thing about prizes, Petzold said, is that they later reminded him of the premieres of the films. “And the premiere of this film here, ‘Red Sky’ in Berlin, was one of the most beautiful in my life and I will always remember that when I see this award.” His awards are in his office. However, that he would have to vacate soon – because of a “damn termination for personal use”, as he said. That’s why he doesn’t yet know where to put the new bear.
