According to the police on Friday, several suspects were reported. A 49-year-old ex-employee of the artist is said to have stolen paintings with a total value of 435,600 euros, which apparently went unnoticed for several years.
The stolen works were first taken to Romania, where they were owned by the 49-year-old’s family for a long time. Two poured paintings by the painter were secured in Vienna in August 2021. On November 9, 2022, five house searches were carried out simultaneously in Germany and Romania. Seven other works of various sizes were discovered here.
The nine works of art are now back in Austria. Three stolen paintings worth 164,000 euros have not yet been found. It was emphasized that there is a search for cultural assets in this regard.
