Just over a year ago, Prince Andrew lost most of his titles and resigned from his duties as a working royal following an abuse scandal. But the prince doesn’t seem to be able to decide on his retirement yet.
It has been reported in recent weeks that Prince Andrew has been asked by his older brother, King Charles III, to leave the property he previously occupied, the Royal Lodge. Due to huge maintenance cuts, Prince Andrew is said to be deprived of an annual subsidy of 250,000 pounds if he can no longer afford the property with around 30 bedrooms.
As compensation to him King Charles III. offered the much smaller house Frogmore Cottage. For this, Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan received the termination of the tenancy. Prince Andrew is not said to be happy about the offer for the smaller house and, according to the British news portal “The Mirror”, is “clinging” to the Royal Lodge.
The 63-year-old prince is said to still believe he is a senior member of the royal family, according to a source on the portal. Despite this, he was indicted on allegations of sexually abusing a minor by victim Virginia Giuffre and resigned from his posts. At the time, he agreed out of court with the plaintiff to pay £12 million in damages, even selling his Swiss chalet for £17 million. However, more details about Prince Andrew’s financial situation are not known. At the time of the lawsuit, it was also said that it was quite possible that the royal family could use their private assets to help the maltreated prince financially with regard to the amount of compensation for pain and suffering.
Prince Andrew no longer a working member of the royal family
In the wake of the abuse scandal, Prince Andrew then resigned from most of his military titles and patronage. Since then, the 63-year-old is no longer a working member of the royal family. As the “Daily Mail” and the “Mirror” now report, Prince Andrew is said to have made his brother Charles an offer. Prince Andrew has reportedly expressed his interest in working as a royal estate manager in the future, taking care of the royal estates, including Balmoral Castle. “He insists on being allowed to work again,” the source told the British news portal. He himself is said to consider himself “too young for retirement”.
According to “Mirror”, the king has already turned down this offer. “No chance of that happening,” the source said. The king is said to have already refused attempts by Andrew’s two daughters, Eugenie and Beatrice, who wanted to help their father, presumably to rehabilitate his reputation.
