Dozens of camera teams and press representatives from all over the world followed the traditional rolling out of the carpet on Hollywood Boulevard on Wednesday (local time).
US comedian Jimmy Kimmel, who will host the 95th Academy Awards this year, was also there. With a biting comment about the beige color, he alluded to the slap scandal at the last trophy gala. People are wondering if there will be anger and violence again this year, said Kimmel, who is conducting the awards ceremony for the third time. He hopes this is not the case. “Choosing the champagne color over a red carpet shows how confident we are that no blood will be spilled,” Kimmel teased.
At last year’s gala, actor Will Smith smacked comedian Chris Rock onstage after he made a joke about Smith’s wife Jada Pinkett.
Oscar Academy executive director Bill Kramer came up with a more elegant explanation for the carpet’s color change. They wanted to add a touch of glamor to the celebrity parade on Sunday night.
Almost 100 meters long and a good ten meters wide, the carpet covers part of the otherwise busy Hollywood Boulevard. Dozens of helpers will install the famous catwalk, trim edges and weld seams by Sunday. For this purpose, barriers and grandstands will be set up for the fans and the press.
