The President of Brazil, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silvadecreed this Tuesday three days of official mourning across the country to honor singer Rita Lee, died in San Pablo victim of cancer, at 75 years of age.

“Rita Lee Jones is one of the biggest and brightest names in Brazilian music. Singer, songwriter, actress and multi-instrumentalist. An artist ahead of her time”, wrote the president on his social networks.
The decree was published in an extra edition of the Official Gazette of the Union. For Lula, the artist helped transform Brazilian music with her creativity and audacity.
“She spared no one and nothing with her humor and eloquence. She confronted machismo in life and music and inspired generations of women in rock and art. She will never be forgotten and leaves her legacy in music and books for millions of fans around the world. My fraternal hug to the children Beto, João and Antonio, family and friends. Rita, now we need you”, he concluded, with a play on words with the song “Agora só lacka você”.
The remains of the singer who was part of the psychedelic rock band of the late sixties Os Mutantes will be held at the Ibirapuera Park in San Pablo, in a ceremony open to the population.
