Christoph Daum: Trainer is in New York’s intensive care unit

According to a media report, long-time football coach Christoph Daum (69) is currently in an intensive care unit in a US clinic. : “I’m in the hospital in New York in the intensive care unit. Last year, however, it became known that Daum had been diagnosed with lung cancer. He was diagnosed in October 2022. “Unfortunately, I’ve had to withdraw from the public eye over the last few months as part of a routine check-up I was diagnosed with cancer,” the coach wrote at the time. The 69-year-old, who coached several Bundesliga teams and clubs across Europe for many years, was hopeful: “I’m a fighter and I’ll tackle this challenge optimistically and with all my strength.”

In an interview with the broadcaster, Daum says, based on football: “It’s an absolute pressing situation. […] Putting pressure on the opponent, on the opposing cells – on the cancer cells. […] Go for it and don’t let them rest. But fight again and again until they are worn down, until they give up and until they retreat and disappear.”
