Manrique died of a heart attack on the way to the hospital where he was rushed from the Villa Olímpica, where the first half of the game ended with a score of 2-0 favorable to the local team.

Faced with the pain of what happened, Vélez raised the request for postponement and the League made room with the endorsement of the local club.


“The League, the AFA and Racing stand in solidarity with Vélez for the death of Hernán Manrique and given the shock that the decompensation of the death represented in the Villa Olímpica of the Liniers club, the match is postponed, with a date to be defined. between the two”, communicated the management of the Argentine tournament.

Racing explained that “the LPF’s decision was made in response to Vélez’s formal request for the death of Hernán Manrique, the club’s Reserve coach.”

“Racing accompanies the request and sympathizes with Vélez in the face of this painful loss”lamented the entity of Avellaneda.

Manrique, 49, had worked as a coach at the Vélez Reserve since last year but before that he had an extensive career as a footballer, mainly in the First National B, with steps through the highest category, the Metropolitan B and the Argentine A tournament. .


In the beginning, he achieved promotion with All Boys (1992/1993) from B Metro to Nacional and almost a decade later, with Nueva Chicago, he rose from the second division to the first. With one of his goals, “Torito” won the first final against Instituto de Córdoba (1-0) in Mataderos.

He also rose to the senior division with Belgrano de Córdoba (1997-1998) and wore the Unión de Santa Fe shirt in big football.

In the ascent he defended the colors of Huracán and Chacarita Juniors (second); Atlético Tucumán and Unión de Sunchales (third) and his only experience abroad was in Macará in Ecuador.

Throughout his professional career he played 334 games and scored 26 goals.
