What “Clipped: the fall of the Los Angeles Clippers” is about
Based on the successful podcast The Sterling Affairs from “ESPN 30 for 30,” the miniseries shows the collision between a dysfunctional basketball organization and an even less functional marriage, and the precipitating impact that the audio has on a set of characters who fight to win, despite being the team Damnest in the league.
The famous coach Doc Rivers (Laurence Fishburne) arrives at the LA Clippers in 2013. With a promising team of great figures, Rivers has all the potential to make the team win its first championship. However, team owner Donald Sterling (Ed O’Neill), represents a known problem: he is stingy, erratic and a bully, so Doc embarks on a personal mission to minimize his influence and win the title. Meanwhile, the power struggle between Sterling’s ambitious personal assistant, V. Stiviano (Cleopatra Coleman), and Sterling’s wife and partner of 60 years, Shelly (Jackie Weaver), intensifies. “Clipped: The Fall of the Los Angeles Clippers” is a racial consciousness-raising story during the Obama era told through memes, in which V. and the Sterlings discover who really has the power in the internet age, and that leaves Rivers and his players questioning whether the expulsion of one bad apple can produce the transformative change that the media wants to celebrate.
