The largest German series festival is attracting audiences to Cologne-Ehrenfeld with several long-awaited premieres. The focus is on a successful German Netflix series.
The largest German festival for series is showing around 30 series from all over the world in Cologne until Friday. The “series camp” opened on Wednesday evening with the premiere of the RTL plus production “I am Dagobert” about the longest blackmail case in German history. Friedrich Mücke can be seen in the role of the department store blackmailer Arno Funke. Funke himself advised the production team, it was said.
The second season of “Kleo” is also about crooks. The successful German Netflix series focuses on the former GDR contract killer Kleo Jennifer Straub, played by Jella Haase. A fan highlight is likely to be the first episodes of the Star Wars series “The Acolyte”.
The “Series Camp” is taking place for the tenth time this year. It was originally based in Munich, but ran online during the Corona pandemic. Last year, a new start was made in Cologne’s trendy Ehrenfeld district. The screenings – which are free for the public – are accompanied by an extensive supporting program with panels, podcasts, lectures and audience activities.
The “Seriencamp Conference” for trade visitors is running in parallel. “We are delighted to be able to present our festival here in Cologne again,” said festival director Simone Schellmann. “With its vibrant media landscape, this city is the perfect backdrop for our anniversary.”
