Supermodel Christie Brinkley: This is her personal self-care routine

As a famous model, Christie Brinkley (70) is considered the perfect role model for many of her fans, but as the American has now revealed in a new interview, she prefers to rely on small, imperfect details to feel strong and sexy. In an interview with the Hamptons magazine “Social Life”, the 70-year-old revealed her trick for more self-love: “I decided to take off my glasses and I encourage everyone to do the same.”

When she puts on make-up or is on Instagram, she makes sure she doesn’t have her glasses on: “I don’t want to think about every little detail or criticize everything. Who has time for that?” she reveals in the July issue of the lifestyle magazine.

Selfcare routine: red nail polish and gardening

But Brinkley’s self-care routine also includes other things. “I like to take the time to do my nails myself,” she explains. “My toes are always red. The shade of red changes, but the color doesn’t.” She doesn’t usually bother painting her nails because she just messes them up when she’s gardening. “That’s why I stick to my toes.”

The time she spends in the garden is another important part of her self-care. “I put on my oversized hat and get my hands dirty. When I’m in contact with nature, I feel like myself.” The only thing that can lift her spirits even more when she needs it: “Hot chocolate. I love making hot chocolate for the whole family.”

Christie Brinkley became known in the late 1970s and early 1980s through her “Sport Illustrated Swimsuit Issue” cover photos. She first appeared as a model in the magazine in 1975, followed by cover shoots in 1979, 1980 and 1981. In 2017, she was once again seen on the “Sport Illustrated Swimsuit Issue” cover, becoming the oldest model to date.

The supermodel was married four times in total. From her second marriage to Billy Joel (75) she has a daughter, Alexa Ray Joel (38). From her third marriage to Richard Taubman (76) she has a son, Jack Cook (29), who was adopted by Peter Cook (65) during her fourth marriage. With husband number four she also has a daughter, Sailor Lee Cook (26). Her last marriage ended in divorce in 2008.

In March 2024, Brinkley made a skin cancer diagnosis public. There, Brinkley shared three photos of her face, showing her wound bandaged, open, and stitched shortly after surgery. “The good news for me is that we caught the basal cell carcinoma early,” she wrote. “And I had great doctors who removed the cancer and stitched me up perfectly – like haute couture Dior.”
