In many places, it is commemorated on July 26, coinciding with the feast of Saint Joachim and Saint Anne, who are traditionally considered the grandparents of Jesus according to Christian tradition.
The story goes that Joachim and Anna were unable to have children, but one day they were blessed with the arrival of Mary, the mother of Jesus. That is why they are considered the most important grandparents.
When is Grandparents Day in 2024?
In several countries, July 26 is celebrated as Grandparents’ Day.especially those who are traditionally Catholic. This is the case of Spain, Cuba, Guatemala, Panama, Paraguay, Portugal, Venezuela and the Dominican Republic. Argentina, despite not being extremely Catholic, does respect religious holidays, so it commemorates Grandparents’ Day on the same day. This year it falls on Friday, July 26.
