George Clooney: Sideswipe against Quentin Tarantino

George Clooney (63) has a conversation with his friend and “Wolf” co-star Brad Pitt (60), which also featured Quentin Tarantino (61). Clooney addressed an unflattering statement that the director is said to have made about him.

George Clooney is not a movie star?

“Quentin said something about me recently and it irritated me a little bit,” the actor explains about Tarantino, with whom he starred in 1996’s “From Dusk Till Dawn.” “He gave an interview in which he named movie stars and he talked about you [Brad Pitt, Anm. d. Red.] and someone else, and then this guy said, ‘Well, what about George?’ He was like, he’s not a movie star. And then he literally said something like, ‘Name me one movie since the turn of the millennium.’ And I thought, since the millennium? That’s pretty much my whole damn career.”

After Brad Pitt responded to the anecdote with a laugh in the interview, Clooney continued with a wink: “Now I’m like, ‘Okay, dude, fuck off.’ I have no problem teasing him. He did it too.” Even more conciliatory, Clooney noted: “But no, we’re really lucky to have been able to work with these great directors. Direction and script are what keep you alive. And I learned that after making some really bad films. You can’t make a good film from a bad script.”

Clooney also has clear words to say about another director in the interview. The actor worked with David O. Russell (65) on the 1999 satirical war film “Three Kings”. It was already known that there had been conflicts on the set. He only wants to work with people “who like what they do,” Clooney says in the interview. “The older you get, the more important your time management becomes. Five months of your life is a lot. So it’s not just about making a really good film like ‘Three Kings’ and then having a miserable asshole like David O. Russell make my life hell. And make everyone else’s life hell. It’s not worth it. Not at this point in my life. Just to have a good product.”
