The lingerie spectacle is set to return to New York in the fall. Tyra Banks and Gigi Hadid will be part of Victoria’s Secret’s comeback.
In 2018, the Victoria’s Secret angels of the famous lingerie fashion show floated down the catwalk for the last time: This autumn, the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is returning. Top models Tyra Banks (50) and Gigi Hadid (29) announced their participation via Instagram video.
During her tenure at the lingerie brand, Tyra Banks walked in nine of the annual shows, which were broadcast on US television and attracted up to twelve million viewers. Gigi Hadid remained loyal to the lingerie company even after the end of the catwalk TV show and was part of the team on last year’s first tour. Now both are back at the brilliant Victoria’s Secret show in New York in October, which was announced in a video on the lingerie label’s official Instagram account.
In the short clip, Hadid struts into the lobby of a hotel where Banks greets her with a show invitation in hand. She is wearing a logo shirt and jacket promoting this year’s show. The post text reads: “Sorry couldn’t write a caption, we were too busy picking our jaws up from the floor when Tyra Banks and Gigi Hadid received VSFS invites [Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show, Anm. der Red.] deliver. You understand.”
Reunion of the supermodels
The lingerie brand has already announced that models such as Candice Swanepoel (35), Imaan Hammam (27), Grace Elizabeth (27), Taylor Hill (28) and plus-size model Paloma Elsesser (32) will be involved.
In May, Victoria’s Secret announced via Instagram: “We read the comments and heard you. The Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show is back and will reflect who we are today, plus everything you know and love – the glamour, the runway, the wings, the musical entertainment.”
Stronger, more modern, by women for women
The 2024 show is set to be more inclusive than in years past. “The 2024 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show will deliver exactly what our customers have been asking for – glamour, runway, fashion, fun, wings, entertainment. But all through a strong, modern lens that reflects who we are today,” the brand said in a statement in May. “We are thrilled to be able to present a female-led version of this iconic brand later this year!”
After its debut in 1995, the celebratory presentation of the upcoming underwear trends became a spectacle over the years, which top models such as Heidi Klum (51) as well as top-class music stars were vying for. The title of Victoria’s Secret Angel has ennobled a model. However, after Victoria’s Secret was heavily criticized for not being inclusive enough, the show was canceled for the first time in 2019. In 2023, the makers of the show returned with “The Tour”.
