Cult actress Leah Remini and her husband are separating after 21 years of marriage. In a joint statement, they explain the background.
“King of Queens” actress Leah Remini (54) and her husband, singer and actor Angelo Pagán (56), are getting divorced after 21 years of marriage. They had thought about this decision for a long time and would take this step with a “positive outlook” because it was the best thing for both of them, they said in a joint statement on social media.
They would celebrate the fact that their marriage had lasted so long and created many beautiful memories, especially raising their daughter. “From our point of view, this marriage was a complete success,” they concluded.
They now wanted to give more insight into their lives and show others that relationships that change or end are not a failure. Remini and her family had at one point presented their private lives and their work in a TV reality show.
Leah Remini and her fight against Scientology
Remini’s career began in the late 80s when she landed her first roles in TV series. Between 1998 and 2007, she made her breakthrough as legal assistant Carrie Heffernan in the comedy series “Kings of Queens,” which was also a huge success in Germany, including on RTL II. She also starred in film comedies such as “Old School” and “Manhattan Queen” alongside Jennifer Lopez.
The actress was a member of Scientology for decades and in 2013 publicly left the controversial organization, which describes itself as a church and is viewed by critics as a dangerous cult. She came to the organization through her mother, Remini said at the time. In the documentary series “Leah Remini: Scientology and the Aftermath” (2016 to 2019), she spoke with former members about their experiences with Scientology.
Last year, she filed a lawsuit against the organization alleging harassment, intimidation, surveillance and defamation. Scientology has failed to silence her, the actress said.
