“There are few bigger fans of George R.R. Martin and his book Fire & Blood than the creative team at House of the Dragon, both in production and at HBO,” the statement read. “Typically, when a book is adapted for the big screen, with its own format and limitations, The showrunner must ultimately make difficult decisions about the characters and stories the audience will follow. We believe that Ryan Condal and his team have done an extraordinary job and that the millions of fans that the series has accumulated during the first two seasons will continue to enjoy it.”
The showrunner Ryan Condal He also addressed the challenge of adapting Fire & Blood for the small screen in the latest installment of the official podcast of game of ThronesHe called Martin’s book a “history book” that doesn’t necessarily include fully developed moments or characters.
“As playwrights, I think we have to approach this story, even though it’s fictional, as anyone would, as if we were trying to adapt a chapter of real history,” Condal said. “So we have to build this three-dimensional reality and this full story for the world to inhabit and provide the characters with inner lives and flaws and desires that wouldn’t necessarily have been reflected in the historical account. Now, there are a lot of opportunities when reading Fire & Blood to say, well, actually there was a flaw or a desire or something that doesn’t come across in the account, but it’s often an incomplete picture. So, really, Much of what we do, as playwrights and adapters of this work, is to give color to the lines that are given to us… and much of that color is, ultimately, ours.”

The author, and also executive producer, published an extraordinary chronicle of his concern for fantasy dramagiving readers a rare glimpse into the behind-the-scenes creative friction of a major television series.
Martin essentially says on his blog that the co-creator and showrunner Ryan Condal has made a key creative change from Martin’s book “Fire & Blood” which he totally disagrees with and which, in his opinion, has already weakened the adaptation in the second season and will cause much bigger problems in seasons three and four (Condal has said that the show will end with the fourth season).
