Diego’s family posted a post on Instagram in which they recall the famous “How could I not be with the retirees?” from 1992. It was after the presidential veto of the reform for retirees.

The official account of Instagram of Diego Maradona uploaded a post in favor of the Retirees Argentines, after the Chamber of Deputies upheld President Javier Milei’s veto of the pension reform. “But how can I not be with the retirees?”expressed Diego Maradona’s account on his social networks.

The message is directed at the political decision taken by the government headed by Javier Milei to cancel the new formula which benefited retirees. The decision was taken to maintain “fiscal balance.”

The drastic measure triggered a large demonstration outside Congress, which was violently repressed by security forces led by Patricia Bullrich.

In the year 1992, The Argentine National Team’s number ten supported the retirees who marched in court against a measure by the government of Carlos Saúl Menem. The protest began when the government in power vetoed an article that established that the funds obtained from the privatization of Yacimientos Petrolíferos Fiscales (YPF) should be used for an increase for retirees.

“I am with the retirees to the death. What they are doing to them is a disgrace,” declared Diego Armando Maradona at the march for an increase in pensions.
