In her posthumous memoir, Lisa Marie Presley reveals that as a child she was “always worried” that her father might die soon.
In January 2023, the tragic death of Lisa Marie Presley (1968 – 2023) shocked her family, who had been shaken by strokes of fate. In her memoirs “From Here to the Great Unknown – From Here into the Unknown: Memories”, which will be published posthumously on October 8th, the musician speaks in detail one last time and gives intimate insights into her life as a child of Elvis Presley (1935-1977). , the “King of Rock’n’Roll”. The memory book was completed after her death based on extensive tape recordings by her eldest daughter Riley Keough (35), which her mother had made while she was still alive.
Ahead of the publication date, People magazine is now publishing some excerpts from the eagerly awaited work. Yesterday, September 26th, these excerpts focused on the fears Lisa Marie Presley faced as a child. It becomes clear that despite the numerous glamor pictures in which the Presleys’ private family happiness was presented to the public, Lisa Marie’s childhood was by no means a luxurious bed of roses.
“I hope my daddy doesn’t die”
“I was always worried that my father would die,” she reveals. “Sometimes I saw him and he was out of his mind. Sometimes I found him unconscious.” When she was little, she dealt with her fear in heartbreaking poems. One of them was titled “I hope my daddy doesn’t die.” Unfortunately, her childhood wish did not come true. When her father died in 1977 as a result of his drug and medication consumption, she was only nine years old.
Nevertheless, her memoirs also contain extremely positive memories of the short time she was granted with her famous father. “Going to his performances was the best thing in the world,” it says at one point. “I was so proud of him. He took me by the hand and brought me on stage, then he was led to his place on the stage and I was taken from him and taken to where I was supposed to sit in the audience.”
Before his concerts, she often asked him to sing certain songs for her, such as “Hurt” or “How Great Thou Art”. Her daddy Elvis fulfilled her wishes every time.
