“My father was a hero, and not just for me”
Jimmy Carter became involved in humanitarian causes after his term in office. His son Chip now described his father as a “hero”.
After the death of Jimmy Carter (1924 – 2024), his second eldest son honored him with a moving statement. On the website of the non-profit organization Carter Center, which the former US President founded with his wife Rosalynn Carter in 1982, James Earl “Chip” Carter III (74) referred to his father as ” Hero”.

Always working for humanitarian purposes
After his time in the White House, Jimmy Carter gained great international reputation through his humanitarian work. With the Carter Center he worked to spread human rights around the world. In 1999, he was awarded the United States’ highest civilian honor, the Medal of Freedom. The Nobel Peace Prize finally followed in 2002.
In his Nobel Lecture he said: “The bond of our common humanity is stronger than the division caused by our fears and prejudices. God gives us the possibility of choice. We can choose to alleviate suffering. We can choose, together, for peace “We can make these changes happen – and we must do it.”

Jimmy Carter is survived by his four children Jack (77), Chip, Donnel Jeffrey (72) and Amy Carter (57), as well as eleven grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. His wife, Rosalynn Carter, died about a year before him in November 2023.
