“There is PRO for a while”: Mauricio Macri’s party said goodbye to the year and raised the challenges for 2025

On the eve of the start of 2025, and in the midst of its dispute with Javier Milei’s ruling party, the PRO – a political party led by former president Mauricio Macri – shared a balance sheet on 2024, the first year of Javier Milei’s management. There, they highlighted what was achieved on the basis of Macri’s presidency and assured that “there is PRO for a while“.

The message comes in a week where tensions between the ruling party and the party led by Macri emerge again, in the face of a possible unity to face the 2025 legislative elections. “We are proud of the role that the PRO had this year because Never before in Argentine history has an opposition party contributed so much to the ruling party as the PRO did in 2024, debating and enabling essential reforms proposed by another political space,” they stated.

The PRO’s message facing an electoral year

The arrival of Javier Milei in December 2023 established strong changes in the Argentine economic, political and social course. After a year of management, the panorama, far from being pacified, seems to become increasingly tense in view of a clear objective by all political spaces for 2025: legislative elections.

In this scenario, the political party led by Macri shared an extensive message on its social networks where they took stock of what happened in the country during 2024. “History is not written in a day. We know that the change that Argentina needs is not easy or quick, but neither is it impossible. This 2024 marked the beginning of a new path, the result of the maturity of Argentines, resuming our essential struggles: fighting mafias, achieving fiscal balance and putting an end to the privileges that slow down the development of the country,” the text began.

Along these lines, from the yellow sector they left a clear message for the ruling party, in the midst of the disputes with Milei officials that worsened after the decision of the head of the Buenos Aires Government, Jorge Macri, to split the legislative elections. “Before this present, there was 2015, and between 2015 and 2019 we fought together many of the battles that are now happening again“they explained.

In more detail, from the PRO bloc they analyzed that “never before in Argentine history has an opposition party contributed as much to the ruling party as the PRO did in 2024”, an idea that had already been outlined by former president Macri during the last match match, held on December 13 at the Abasto Hotel.

Looking ahead to the 2025 elections, they assured: “Today we remain firm: no governor or mayor left the PRO, and our legislative bloc remains solid and unitedpromoting profound changes such as the Base Law, supporting key decrees and contributing to overcoming the current crisis. “We fulfill our mandate to defend the Republic, reduce the deficit and make way for freedom.”

“We will continue defending the causes that represent us, even if the Government does not accompany them. Because the PRO doesn’t stop. Because there is PRO for a while. Thanks for joining us. Let’s continue building a better Argentina together,” they concluded.

Manuel Adorni charged against Mauricio Macri in the midst of the tension between the PRO and the LLA

The presidential spokesperson, Manuel Adorni, assured days ago that former president Mauricio Macri “ran out of gas,” maintaining that “couldn’t” or “didn’t want to” carry out the necessary reforms to transform the country during his time as president between the years 2015-2019.

“Macri ran out of gas. It doesn’t matter if it was because he didn’t want to or couldn’t, it’s almost secondary. When you analyze that period, you see that inflation was not controlled, nor was the fiscal deficit, and it ended with stocks”he listed in a radio interview and added: “What needed to be done was not done.”

In his last press conference, Adorni highlighted the role of the PRO for the management of Javier Milei.

His statements come in the midst of negotiations with the PRO for the definition of electoral engineering for next year’s Legislative elections. For Adorni, a large part of the electorate that gave victory to La Libertad Avanza is not exclusively libertarianbut supported the former president of Together for Change, but given his lack of answers, he chose to accompany Javier Milei.

Asked about a possible electoral agreement between the ruling party and the PRO, Adorni reiterated the premise that the head of state expressed when stating that either they draw alliances in all the districts or they go separately. “There are no gray areas. It is prohibited to deceive the electorate, lie and do old political tricks”he stated in statements to radio Rivadavia.
