Mel Gibson talked about his burned-down house in a TV interview and made a strange comparison to Dresden.

Oscar winner Mel Gibson (69) is one of the celebrities whose homes fell victim to the devastating wildfires in Southern California. It was “devastating and emotional, I lived there for a long time.” At the same time, he also takes the loss somewhat soberly and with humor: “It’s just a thing. It’s just things. And I’ve been freed from the burden of my things because everything is in ruins,” says Gibson cynically. “At least I don’t have any of those annoying plumbing problems anymore.”

He was not in Los Angeles at the time of the fires, but was in Austin, Texas, for a podcast recording; his partner Rosalind Ross (34) evacuated the house in time. When the two returned, they found nothing but rubble where their home had stood just a few days before. Miraculously, his chickens survived: “They weren’t roast chickens,” jokes the actor.

He shared a video of the ruins with the news station. “I’ve never seen a place so completely burned. It’s the perfect storm, the perfect firestorm,” says Gibson, drawing a curious comparison to the destruction in Germany after World War II: “My home looked like Dresden. “

“It was my home”

At the end of the interview, the actor also gives a more serious insight into his mental life: “It’s emotional. I lived there for 14 or 15 years, it was my home. I had a lot of personal things there that I won’t get back.” says Gibson. “The good news is that the people in my family and those I love are doing well.”

On January 7th, several forest fires broke out in the Los Angeles region, which spread quickly and widely at the same time as several small fires due to strong winds. The areas of Malibu and Pacific Palisades as well as Pasadena and Altadena were particularly affected. As a result of the fires, more than 100,000 people had to evacuate their homes in southern California. Numerous houses burned down completely, including those of many celebrities.
