“The Dead from Lake Constance”: Farewell to Commissioner Hoffmann

Nora Waldstätten was followed by Alina Fritsch alongside Matthias Koeberlin. But after two years it’s over. What does that mean for the popular ZDF crime series?
The father is in prison, the mother is a police investigator. As if this initial situation wasn’t already tense enough, the parents’ conflict culminates in the new episode of “The Dead from Lake Constance” in a duel over the question: Who can live with it if a child dies?
It’s not about their daughter, but about a kidnapped boy. The suspect is Antonio Zübert’s former cellmate, who escaped from prison. But so that Inspector Luisa Hoffmann (Alina Fritsch) can get possible information from her ex Zübert (Luka Dimic), he wants to see his daughter. “I want to protect my child. No matter the cost,” says Hoffmann. Don’t throw it to the man. But does she have a choice?
“I know that the circumstances are shitty,” says her colleague Micha Oberländer (Matthias Koeberlin). If the relationship between the two had just become a little more relaxed, it was time to say goodbye again.
The episode “The Medusa”, which ZDF will show on January 13th at 8:15 p.m., is the last with Fritsch. The actress will leave the crime series and devote herself to new professional tasks, the broadcaster announced. In “The Medusa” the background story about Luisa Hoffmann is told to the end in a thriller.
“With her role as an Austrian investigator alongside Matthias Koeberlin, she contributed to the success of the series for two years,” writes the editorial team about Fritsch, who had followed Nora Waldstätten at the time.
The previous 20 episodes have seen an average of 6.5 to 8.5 million viewers during their first broadcasts, or a good quarter of the market share. “The Dead from Lake Constance” is also one of the strong series in the “TV film of the week” category in the ZDF media library.
ZDF is not yet revealing exactly what will happen after Fritsch’s exit. The fact that the popular crime series will be continued can be deduced from the information that a successor will be communicated “in due course”. However, broadcast dates for further episodes have not yet been set.
In addition to the kidnapping of the boy, the investigators from Lake Constance also have to solve the murder of his aunt. Her body lies on the bank. The costume she wears indicates a visit to the bonfire the evening before.
She was at the party with a man who claimed to be her boyfriend. According to the family of those killed, the two always had problems.
“That fucking Medusa is cursed”
Over time it becomes clear that the father of the kidnapped boy doesn’t have a clean slate. The Medusa also comes into focus: a golden bust discovered during excavations that was stolen during a break-in at an art gallery and whose insurance value is over one million euros.
In keeping with the mysterious criminal cases in the film series, the image of the figure with snake hair known from Greek mythology is said to have disappeared in a storm in Lake Constance. That’s what the man reports. And says: “I somehow had the feeling that fucking Medusa was cursed.”
