The celebrated French actress was recognized by the three big film festivals as the best actress. Now she will lead the jury at the festival in her home country.

The French actress Juliette Binoche becomes President of the jury at this year’s Film Festival in Cannes. The 60-year-old took over the chair 40 years after her first appearance at the renowned French film festivals, said the festival. “Juliette Binoche convinced the audience and critics alike and combined today’s world-class filmography,” it said. The jury decides on the main prize, the Golden Palm, which will be awarded this year on May 24th.

Binoche (“The English Patient”) has been President of the European Film Academy since May 2024. She is one of the few French actresses who won an Oscar. In addition, she was crowned the best actress by the three largest film festivals in Cannes, Berlin and Venice. “I look forward to sharing these life experiences with the members of the jury and the audience,” she was quoted in the message.

In the 78th edition of the International Film Festival on the Côte d’Azur, the Parisian takes over the jury chair from the American director Greta Gerwig. According to the festival management, a woman hands over the role to another woman for the second time.
