Without her, “Sex and the City” would be unthinkable: On March 25th, Sarah Jessica Parker 60 and has left Carrie’s lifestyle behind.

Sarah Jessica Parker (60) would almost not have accepted the role of her life. TV shows were not necessarily a non-plus-ultra in the nineties if you wanted to be successful as a serious actress. A new, still completely unknown series about four women in New York was a risk, but Parker took it, even if she couldn’t know how sustainably the series should influence her career and pop culture.

She was known before: Parker celebrated the first success at the age of 14 as “Annie” on Broadway, later she played in cult films such as “Hocus Pocus”, “Mars Attacks”, “The Club of Devils” or “Ed Wood”. In 1998, SJP finally stooded out for the first time as Carrie Bradshaw in “Sex and the City” by New York and became a cult figure for not just a generation of women. The series was known for its love capades and women’s friendships – and for the iconic outfits that SJP created together with the costume designer Patricia Field (84).

How similar are Carrie and Sarah Jessica?

Since “Sex and the City” Carrie Bradshaw has become a synonym for her name like the abbreviation SJP. She played the role for almost 100 episodes in the original series, in two films and since 2021 again in the spin-off “And just like that …”. Nevertheless, you shouldn’t make the mistake of confusing Sarah Jessica and Carrie. In several interviews, SJP asked Carrie about her similarities with Carrie: “See you similarly.” The love for New York and to individual fashion also share the two. But that’s it.

In terms of love life, SJP is definitely lucky than her series figure. According to relationships with Robert Downey Jr. (59) and John F. Kennedy, Jr. (1960-1999), she married the actor and director Matthew Broderick (69) in 1997. The couple had a son born in 2002 and born in 2009 by a surrogate mother.

A new lifestyle came with the children

It was no accident that SATC ended two years after the birth of her first child. SJP reorganized her priorities and partly said goodbye to her old life as a shimmering series star in New York City: “Most of my friends in New York are single women or gay men. It took some time until I could say ‘I can’t go out to eat with you today. I want to put my son to bed.’ It is a whole new way to think and it is spectacular, “(71).

SJP has also gradually done well to the SATC work: it was in films such as “Sedent to move out”, “Smart People” or “Did you hear that from Morgans?” to see. From 2016 to 2019 she played one of the main roles in the “Divorce” series, which she also produced with her own production company Pretty Matches. In addition, SJP used its status as a fashion icon: she released a model line for a discounter, launched several perfumes, created non-traditional bridal fashion, a collection of accessories and led her own shoe company “SJP Collection” for ten years.

However, SJP has not yet fulfilled a dream: her own grocery store. Shortly before her 40th birthday, she revealed Oprah that she always wanted one: “I want my shop to be a place where you can lead an ongoing bill. I would like to keep the post for people if they are not in the city. I want to rent bicycles in summer.” Maybe there is actually a little more “Gilmore Girls” in Sarah Jessica Parker as “Sex and the City”.
