With their success, BTS have given the rest of the world a glimpse into South Korean pop culture – and have blown a British fan in particular. Oli London, 31, is an avid supporter of the seven-piece band and particularly admires the 25-year-old singer Jimin. The young man reported to the “Daily Mail” that it all started with a stay in the Asian country: “It started when I lived in South Korea for a while in 2013. I was head over heels for the Korean culture, the language and people in love. ” Since then, he’s taken some pretty drastic steps to become part of that culture.
In South Korea there are strict rules about what is beautiful and what is not. A very slim, petite figure, porcelain-white skin, a heart-shaped face. In order to be accepted and respected, many young Koreans undergo cosmetic surgery inside – which is a matter of course for Europeans, which is irritating. How to find that can certainly be discussed extensively – Oli London at least was more than impressed. “What excited me most was how Korean people looked. I was fascinated by their aesthetics.” He realized: He wanted to look like that too.

The influencer underwent the first cosmetic surgery in 2013. To this day, he had fat suctioned from his chest, chin and cheekbones sculpted, eyelids tightened, lips injected – and five nose operations. But that’s not enough for him: “I still have to get my nose done somehow … Korean noses are so cute, very small and very pointy, so I want to imitate that. I’ve already had five nose jobs, but they all went a little wrong.” He’s not sure if he’ll ever be happy with the way he looks. “I feel like a canvas with a painting that is never quite finished. There are still a few strokes I want to add,” he told the Daily Mail.
The 31-year-old spent more than 140,000 pounds (about 163,000 euros) on a total of 18 operations. Not only because of this, his parents are rather moderately enthusiastic about his “project”. “Whenever I plan an operation, my mother goes crazy,” says Oli. He now feels so much at home in Korean culture that he sees himself as a Korean. He is “transracial”, says Oli London, in this context he also speaks of a “coming out” as a Korean.
Oli would only date Koreans inside
The only problem is with the language, even if the BTS fan is diligently learning Korean and knows “a very good number of Korean formulations”. He only eats Korean food, and he only meets with potential partners who are Korean. “I would never date anyone who is not Korean.”
