Steyr cleans and helps: every kilo of rubbish brings in one euro

Almost 3,000 volunteers freed nature from more than 2,200 kilograms of rubbish that had been thrown away carelessly last year. These are the numbers that have to be beaten at the 14th edition of “Steyr putzt” from March 25th to April 8th. Incidentally, the popular floor cleaning campaign is doing double duty for a good cause again this year: In addition to the environment, the Steyr women’s shelter is benefiting from the campaign this time. “Steyr cleaning not only means environmental protection, but is also a valuable contribution to raising awareness. We will donate one euro for every kilogram of carelessly thrown away waste collected,” says City Councilor Katrin Auer (SP), Chairwoman of the Supervisory Board of Stadtbetriebe Steyr (SBS).

As in previous years, “Steyr putzt” is organized by the SBS. Citizens and friends of the city, whether families, schools, kindergartens, clubs or companies, are invited to take part in the campaign. The SBS support with the necessary equipment – tongs, gloves, safety vests and garbage bags. For larger groups there is help with collecting the garbage bags.

The “Steyr cleans to go” campaign is also undergoing a relaunch: special “Steyr cleans” garbage cans will be set up at the Enns curve and in the Unterhimmler Au during the campaign. Here you can take out small garbage bags so that you can take the opportunity to collect litter, i.e. rubbish that has been thrown away carelessly, on every walk, walk or jog.

“We would be delighted if you sent us photos of your collections and the most curious finds on our Facebook page ‘Steyr putzt’,” says waste consultant Katharina Freiberger from SBS.
