What successful women do right

“Boldly say yes when given a chance.”

“Not afraid of challenges.”

“Never forget a sense of humor at work.”

These are the most important pieces of advice from successful women that Christine Haberlander, deputy governor of the state, invited to a panel discussion in the OÖN Promenaden Galerien yesterday. Under the motto “Make strong women visible”, Corona crisis coordinator Katharina Reich, master confectioner Brigitta Schickmaier, musician Stefanie Poxrucker, athlete Ivona Dadic and lifestyle blogger Eva Langmayr revealed their personal recipes for success.

“No pain, no gain, that’s what my grandmother said – and that applies even more to women than to men,” said hostess Christine Haberlander. This sentence often helped her on her way to top politics. “When opportunities come, you should take them boldly, just as men do.”

Katharina Reich agrees: “You have to seize opportunities, otherwise the boat will pass, disappear on the horizon and never come back.” The doctor had not planned that by the time she was 35 she would be medical director of the Brothers of Charity in Vienna. But that was not the end of her career advancement. She has been in charge of the Corona crisis coordination “Gecko” since the previous year. Humor is also essential for Reich, who is considered fearless, solution-oriented and hard-working.

Lots of diligence and discipline

Unsurprisingly, for a competitive athlete like Ivona Dadic, who joined the discussion online, hard work and discipline are the key ingredients to success. And of course strength and self-confidence are also part of it. “My mother passed that on to me, who is my biggest role model and who showed me that you always have to get up again after a loss.”

“You have to do more than others to be successful,” Brigitta Schickmaier is convinced. And she knows what she’s talking about. After all, she is a state confectioner and has been self-employed for 27 years with her confectionery of a different kind.

Their cakes are nationally known. The 49-year-old from Pettenbach is currently on the jury in the RTL baking show “Master of Sweets”. “I would never have managed all this without the support of my husband and my sons, who always encouraged me,” admits Brigitta Schickmaier. Her motto “What you think today, you will be tomorrow” has often come true with her.

For the singer Stefanie Poxrucker (34) from the Mühlviertel band Poxrucker Sisters, love for what you do is a secret of success: “If you put a lot of work, diligence and heart and soul into a project, then happiness often comes automatically.” For the young mother, her support in the male-dominated and tough music business is her two sisters and her husband. “Cooperation is more important than elbowing.”

Young role model for women

Eva Langmayr sees it that way too. The 26-year-old from Linz not only runs the “Bits and Bobs Brunch Club” podcast, but also founded an agency with five men that advises companies on creating their own podcasts. “It was clear from the start that I was the boss.” In their world, male or female plays no role in management positions.

“Generations of women have fought for this, which gives me hope that we are on the right track,” says Christine Haberlander. “This makes it clear that women can do anything – if they have the courage to do it.”
