EU Gas Contingency Plan entered into force

How the 27 EU countries lower their demand is up to them. The regulation provides for numerous exceptions for states and “critical sectors of the economy” such as the food industry. It is unclear whether the planned savings target of a total of 45 billion cubic meters of gas can be achieved.

The Gas Heat Association is cautiously optimistic that the savings potential of 15 percent will start in Austria, as Deputy Chairman and Wiener Netze Managing Director Gerhard Fida explained on Tuesday at the sidelines of a press conference. It would be too soon to think that everything is safe and sound. The reservoirs are currently 55 to 56 percent full. One hopes for continued gas deliveries. According to Fida, it is also important to consider where savings can be made without losing comfort.
