The 70-year-old from Linz drove his car towards the city center on Freistädter Straße around 7 p.m. At house number 432, for reasons that are still unknown, he got his car into the oncoming lane and collided with an oncoming bus. The silver Ford spun and came to a stop about 20 yards away.

The car was so badly damaged that the 70-year-old had to be freed by the professional fire brigade using rescue shears. The driver was taken to the Kepler University Hospital, where he succumbed to his serious injuries.
The driver of the bus and four passengers suffered minor injuries in the accident.
